OTWAY, Cape V
On 7th December, 1800, Lieut. James Grant when in command of the LADY NELSON, wrote: "I named it Cape Albany Otway, in honour or William Albany Otway, Esq., Captain in the Royal Navy, and one of the Commissioners of the Transport Board."
The name was later shortened to its present form. The Otway Ranges have the same origin.
