Dublin College of Heralds

A note in the Grant of Arms from The College of Heralds, Dublin refers to:

John Otway of Sedburgh, a Captain in the Navy and Judge Advocate to Queen Elizabeth and to James I.

John Otway died in 1623.

He had two sons:

John died on 25th October 1638
Charles was killed at the Battle of Edgehill in 1642.

According to the Grant, this Charles is the father of Colonel John, but the whole tree is so distorted that it is difficult to give it any credibility.

This is the only mention of this branch of the family, although this John may be one of the unspecified Johns from Middleton and Kirkby Lonsdale.
