To be ensign 24/10/1721 - commission renewed 1727. Brigadier and Lieutenant in 2nd Troop of Life Guards 26/10/1738. In 1745 he was given command of several volunteer companies for the defence of the Metropolis and had the rank of Lt. Col. (War Office Miscellany Book 21).
