Had one brother, Lawrence (after whom Mark is named) who emigrated to Canada where he is believed to have committed suicide. Married twice - her first husband was Edwin Kirk, a Naval Officer and later tea-planter. They lived in Africa and Ceylon until ill-health caused Peggy to return to England. She was unable to rejoin her husband so he divorced her. She worked as an infant teacher working with the children of her friends, running a very successful little school (very much ahead of the times) in Epsom. She was introduced to Cecil by a family friend and they married in St Ethelburga's church, Bishopsgate in July 1934. (Church bombed -IRA) (The family friend "Aunt Tricia" - Battersby, born Kirk, - who became adoptive mother to Claire and Mark - was a cousin by the first marriage.)
