Thomas inherited the estate, married Martha Prittie, daughter of Colonel Henry Prittie of Kilvory, near Nenagh, Knight of the Shire for Tipperary and father of the first Lord Dunally.
Thomas received a Grant of Arms dated 28th May 1774 - the Arms at the beginning of the book. However, it must be said that the family tree accompanying the Grant (Dublin Castle) bears only scant resemblance to fact (see Appendix E).
They had no issue. Thomas died in 1786. Martha continued to live at Lissen Hall, left as her jointure house. His memorial reads "Brief, but well spent" (Templederry Church). Stone erected by his nephew Loftus William.
Will dated 9/2/1782, proved 14/5/1789
MS 12138 in The National Library of Ireland is a ledger of accounts with his tenants and workers kept by Thomas Otway during 1771 and 1772 (see Appendix ?)
