James lived at Ballinware (as per the Primary Valuation List - 1850) , and married Mary Studdert of the Bunratty family, Co. Clare. Her father was Rector of Nenagh. James died at Kingstown in August 1858, aged seventy-two, leaving no children. He gave Ballinware (or Ballinsiragh, the Steward's Place) to his nephew, Caesar George Otway, in 1852, who sold it to W. Wolfe in 1859.
Probate granted to John Hastings Otway of 86 Leeson Street Dublin. Wife Mary £500 part of a larger sum I possess in the Government Funds. £2,000 Sterling secured to her by our marriage settlement deposited with Admiral John F. Studdert of which I was to have a life use. Sister Phoebe £30 yearly for term of her natural life and no longer; to be paid haf-yearly by nephew and executor J.H.Otway. Brother William annuity £20 for life and no longer paid half-yearly. My reputed daughter Charlotte Williams now living in Kilworth, Co. Cork £12 a year to be paid for life.
