Rona went to Diocesan High School, boarding for a time. She also stayed for some of the time with her Puckey grandparents in Arney Road, Remuera. After the First World War, she went to Europe with her parents and met her future husband on a golf course in England. She came back to New Zealand but later returned to England to marry John Powell May, leather merchant.
They lived in Dulwich, South London, but when their children were a little older they came back to New Zealand in 1935 and purchased a property in Arney Road, Remuera.
Rona was a keen bridge player. go If player. race goer and gardener - she excelled at all these things. She was tall, always well groomed and full of fun. Her husband John died relatively young and she later married Charles Murphy of Te Aroha. Rona died a few months after Charles in 1976.
