Henry Roy Hume joined the Vacuum Oil Company and at one stage was stationed in Te Kuiti. He was a keen yachtsman and it one time was part owner and skipper of the 60 foot yacht "Thelma". Roy married Ailsa Maud Howard. In the Second World War, Roy was a Captain in the Artillery and died bravely as this extract from the "N.Z. Herald'' cites: "5th Regiment - a tribute to the memory of Captain Roy Hume and the brave gunners of "C" Troop 5th Regiment, N.Z. Artillery, who were killed at their guns at Bel Hamid, Libya on December 1st, 1941." ROY and AILSA had two children: Howard Richard Hume was educated in Auckland and joined the Navv straight from school and was commissioned about 5 years later. After leaving the Navy, he studied at a University in Canada and at present holds a responsible position with an oil company in Calgary, Canada.
Brian Hume was also educated in Auckland and later took a history degree and joined the Diplomatic Service: he now has his own business in London, Canada.
Ailsa later remarried and she and her husband Douglas Banks went to live in Toronto, Canada. Douglas came from Cambridge (N.Z.) and was a stockbroker and has a horse stud.
