Brian Kay Otway is the younger son of Charles and Daisy Otway. He was educated Newmarket School and then attended Kings College, Auckland, attaining First Rugby XV honours 1943. During World War 2, he served for a short time with the R.N.Z.A.F. (LAC) and then completed a Diploma in Agriculture at Lincoln College. He then sharemilked for some years at Wellsford before purchasing a gorse infected block of land with no buildings or fences. Through sheer hard work, the property has now been transformed into a ''picture "as a sheep and cattle farm with green pasture and well kept buildings. In 1955, Brian married Eve Tennant, the daughter of Dr and Mrs Tennant of Wellington.
BRIAN and EVE have six children: Juliet Eve, Rosalind, Charles Caesar Augustus. Gilda. Gretchen, and Matthew Alan. To date none of the children are married.
