Impreza Club Meets

Brands Hatch - October 2000

My first trackday, organised by the SIDC. I wasn't driving myself, but managed to get some superb passenger laps in a UK car, 22B, P1 and Pete Croney's Scoobysport rally-spec RA. Didn't take many pictures because of the dreadful weather, but here's a few shots and some video (20 seconds, 1Mb approx) from the day. The Exige was lapping as quickly as the Imprezas, despite being RWD, but ended up having an unfortunate 'off' just before the end of the last session.

Oh, the the last couple of images are of the Official SIDC Curry meeting that took place later in the evening!

Flat out down the straight A car park full of scoobs Waiting in the pits Pete C's rally-spec RA More cars on track A Terzo giving it some welly Three P1s in a row The pits (as the rain started) Another session starts Evo and Exige guest appearances The result of getting a little carried away :-( This Exige was 2nd fastest of the day! Hope it wasn't too expensive to fix... Ouch! SIDC Members + Nosebag The Scottish contingent

Epsom Downs - September 99

Organised by Andrew Bolton, who's now defected to the other side (by buying that other awesome Japanese 4WD monster, the Mistubishi Lancer), this was as more of an Evo meet than a Scoob one, with about six Evo VI's and a couple of older models. Tim & I got out the remote control cars and had a bit of a play, but it was the same old story as the WRC - his Lancer won the day after my Scoob suffered from a loss of drive to the front wheels due to the drive belt coming loose. Looks like I'm not cut out to be a mechanic....

The 1/10 scale cars battle it out Benny Boy's young passenger, who attracted more attention than the £130,000-worth of cars!

Rolling Road Session - Feb 99

Jonathan Rigby organised a session with Power Engineering in Uxbridge to kill off the rumours and find out what the real power is that these cars can generate. My car recorded a peak power of 288bhp, and a peak torque of 250lb/ft. You can see the graph here. The rest can be viewed at Paul Strong's Dyno Page. It's worth noting that although my camera managed to take the shots without any blurring, the wheels in the bottom three pictures should be blurred, as they're spinning very quickly (with the engine at about 5000rpm - in gear!).

Surrey Meet - Jan 24th 99

The first Surrey meet of 1999, held at the Chiddingfold pub The Crown Inn. 57 Imprezas (including two 22Bs and more than 20 STIs & WRXs), Terry's Evo and a Skyline GT-R required some serious parking space; unfortunately the pub's landlord slightly exaggerated when he me that there was "plenty of parking space - enough for at least 35 cars" but he made up for it by giving us our own private bar! Oh, and for anyone who was there and took the piss out of my limp, I've since found out that it was indeed a broken toe, which explains why I stalled the 22B when I had a drive (honest!).

Evo V vs STI IV Type-R - Jan 99

I got together with Rob Lay and Terry Stone in his 'Custard Bus' Evo V, on a very wet and slippery day, to find out how the cars compared. These are some pictures Terry & I took before we swapped cars. Read Terry's review for the full story. And as if to confirm the Type-R's slight tendency to oversteer on slippery patches in the wet, I had a little moment on the way home!

Eat my shorts!

SIDC/Essex Police Driver Improvement Course - Nov 98

The SIDC and Essex police have combined to set up driver improvement courses for Impreza owners. The course consists of several classroom theory sessions, culminating in a session on the skid pan.

In the interests of science, Chris Coulson asked instructor Richard Grimes to test the grip and handling of his Impreza on the skid pan.

These Sierras sure don't handle well in the wet... Chris: 'Can we stop now please?' Richard: 'But this is so much fun!'

Surrey SIDC/IWOC Meet - Sep 98

Also at Newlands Corner, with at least 34 cars including a 22B, one of only 399 in the world.

What's that on your chin, Matt? The badge we'd all love on our cars The engine we'd all love under the bonnet...! Wide, isn't it? Mark Russell proves that the Impreza is a sensible family saloon Lots of STis - look out IM, the tide is turning... So that's where all the Imprezas are! Give us a smile, Chris! Look at 'em all! A number plate so cool it makes owning a 22B look positively boring... Scooby convoy!!! Oi, you lot - no racing, ya hear!?? Arriving at the pub - ready for a much-needed drink (soft of course) What's this - the owner in the passenger seat...? Guess who's just driven his first 22B. Did you like it Pete? Let's play Spot the Sierra!
